I’m Clayson Fletcher, designer and founder of Nova Supply Co. I was born and raised in Canada, in a religious household, which allowed me to be intact with my creative spirits. My mother is a strong and God-fearing woman, and I aspire to be just like my father, a humble and observant individual. I believe he really helped me become the creative I am today.
I find that when I am alone I’d look for an output of expression, whether it’s poetry or clothing. When it comes to social media, I don’t pay much attention to it. I don’t spend countless hours on my phone because I feel like it kills my creativity. I want to be pure and organic when it comes to everything I create, and that’s why I don’t enjoy looking at other designers’ work. My work habits might not be the healthiest, but it works best for my productivity. I study fabrics and design during the day, but when night falls, I am inspired to create. I put on jazz music and spend the dark hours peacefully cutting and sewing until my hands ache, and my body goes numb. I feel like there is no stress or anger inside of me while I am doing it. That is why I feel vulnerable when I sell my handmade pieces. It makes me feel like I am giving a part of me away because I pour my love into each and every single piece, however, I don’t mind sharing it with others.
I’m a fanatic for older movies such as “Gone with the Wind” and “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner”. I also love anime and cartoons. Few of my favorites are “Steven Universe”, “Cowboy Bebop”, “HunterXHunter”, and “Adventure Time”. Music is another source for finding creative inspiration, however, Frank Ocean, Pharrell, and Tyler the Creator are the only artists of this generation that truly inspire me. I’m naturally an old head when it comes to music. Have my father to blame for that. Stevie Wonder, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennet, Babyface, Luther Vandross are a few of my favorites, though D’Angelo sticks out among the bunch. He played a huge role in my life and my craving for music, especially jazz.
